Elizabeth's Baby Food Review: Episode 5

Welcome to the fifth episode of Elizabeth's Baby Food Review. I'm your host, Elizabeth, and tonight I'm going to be sampling a dish called "green beans".

So they've brought it out in the usual blue plastic dish, and---hold it. No!

Get me out of here! This is a clear violation of my filming contract! I will not eat sweet peas again!
I can't believe you tried to trick me.  I'll sue, I'll---

What's that? Green beans are the same color as sweet peas?  Do I look like I was born yesterday? I look like I was born five months ago? Oh, very funny.

Hmph. I'm not sure that I believe you, but I do have an audience who is eagerly awaiting the next episode, so I guess I'll risk it.  But so help me, if these are actually sweet peas, you will pay.

Hm. This is....definitely not sweet peas.

It's...it's not the most wonderful thing I've ever tasted, but at least my first instinct isn't to spit it out...

Why didn't you tell me that they weren't so bad? Geez, you are such a baby. Here, give me that spoon.

What do you mean I don't have good aim?  Most of the food makes it into my mouth.

No, I don't need you to help me, and if you think I can't see your hand there, trying to sneak in and take my spoon away, you're mistaken.

Well, that's it for this episode of Elizabeth's Baby Food Review.  Join us next week for a new taste experience!

Mother's Note: I could see some improvement in Elizabeth's eating this time--she didn't immediately spit out the first few bites of green beans! Either she liked it, or she's getting more used to eating with a spoon. :)

Five Months Old!

Yesterday, my little darling turned five months old!  Here's what she looked like (WARNING: Copious amounts of picspam to follow):

Playing with Nagypapi (Hungarian for Grandfather)

A little blurry, but the best grin I managed to capture during the photo shoot.
This is her librarian face: "Shhh. Quiet in the library."

What did you just say to me?!

What is that thing in front of your face?

I'm not sure I approve.

 Just a grin. :)

We took a small day-trip to New Bern, NC on Friday and had quite the adventure simply walking around and looking at stuff, and Elizabeth met Santa for the first time. Here are some pictures from that trip, as well as video footage of the great Santa encounter of 2011:
Sitting in her carrier while we ate at Ribeye's Steakhouse.  She's staring at me with cool disdain. "A bow, Mom? Seriously?"

Posing with Dad after the great Santa encounter: "I'd rather be held by bear than by that bearded guy in the red suit."

Playing Tiny Tim to Dad's Bob Cratchit.

And how does Elizabeth respond to Santa Claus for the first time? Why, with abject terror, of course:

The picture is pretty hilarious.  In any case, here are some new facts about our little girl:
  1. She makes a grunting sound that indicates frustration or disgust. It's almost like a small fit, which is cute for now, but later it might be a problem.
  2. Now when she pulls my glasses off my face, she chortles almost wickedly. Little devil.
  3. When we help her pet the dogs, she laughs with delight. She adores both the dogs.
The host of Elizabeth's Baby Food Review will return very soon--we took pictures for the next episode last night. :)

Elizabeth's Baby Food Review: Episode 4-Thanksgiving Special

So today's episode of Elizabeth's Baby Food Review is a very special holiday episode. Earlier I took a picture with some of my servants after they prepared a huge feast of solid food for themselves. The one in the purple shirt did most of the cooking and cleaning. They prepared something called "mashed potatoes" and they assure me that it is one of the best parts of this "Thanksgiving" thing they're celebrating.

So these are mashed potatoes?  They aren't usually this runny, huh? Yeah, I know you mix it with formula because I don't have teeth and all.  Are you sure this is good? I'm a little skeptical, though I am relieved that it isn't some neon color like peas or carrots.

Hmm...interesting texture and taste. Nothing particularly offensive about this taste at all so far.

Say, these mashed potatoes aren't bad at all! I simply must shake your hand for feeding me something that isn't completely repulsive!

Hold on--are these made with European butter? No? That might be a problem...

When you servants watch the Food Network, that smart Alton Brown guy says that European butter is the best and I really don't think I should be made to eat substandard food this early in my life. What's that? European butter has more fat?

Well then, I suppose I'll compromise, but if my palate is ruined I'm going to blame you. These are pretty good, even made with unremarkable butter.  Here, let me have that spoon.

*Smack* What do you mean this isn't very lady-like? I have a cloth napkin tucked under my chin and everything. I'll thank you to keep your opinions regarding my table manners to yourself, serf.

I should tell everyone what I'm thankful for? Well, I'm thankful that mashed potatoes aren't terrible like peas or carrots, and I'm thankful that formula and breast milk are still the main staples in my diet.  That's all for this special holiday episode of Elizabeth's Baby Food Review, but we'll be back after the holiday with a new food so stay tuned!

Mother's Note: Elizabeth did seem to like the potatoes more than carrots or sweet peas, though she isn't crazy about the texture. She did smack her little lips and she kept opening her mouth for more without being tricked into doing it, so that's a good sign! It will just take a lot more spoon-feeding to get her used to foods with different textures and tastes, and as you can see from the pictures she is wearing more food than she's actually eating, lol!

Elizabeth's Baby Food Review: Episode 3

Welcome to the third episode of Elizabeth's Baby Food Review.  I'm Elizabeth, and tonight I'll be sampling carrots.

Let me look at that first. I had a rather unsettling experience with the last episode's food, and I want to make sure that this dish doesn't resemble that one in any way. I guess this might be okay...it's orange instead of that nasty green color.

Oh no. No, this is bad, too. This is terrible, and I demand a refund of my money.  I don't----

Say....this isn't quite as bad as it tasted at first. It's certainly not the worst thing I've tasted (that would be sweet peas, of course). Let me have a little more of that stuff!

This isn't as bad as peas! That's not exactly a ringing endorsement, of course, but I have to admit that I'm relieved!

Maybe this whole solid food stuff isn't so bad.  Maybe I will even like peas someday.  My taste buds are probably maturing more and more every second.

Well...I'd better not get ahead of myself. These carrots are still pretty nasty--just not as nasty as peas.

Well, that's it for this episode of Elizabeth's Baby Food Review.  Join us next week for a special holiday episode.  I'm hoping mashed potatoes taste a lot better than carrots or peas!

Mother's Note: She wasn't too happy with those carrots, but she seemed to like them more than the peas.  I wish I'd had our video recorder going, because I swear she went "Ugh!" after one of the bites.  It was hilarious!

Elizabeth's Baby Food Review: Episode 2

Welcome to the second episode of Elizabeth's Baby Food Review. Tonight we are embarking on a taste adventure--I told the chef to surprise me.

Sweet peas? Well that sounds pleasant. Wait, why are you snickering?

Are you sure this is safe to eat? The color of this stuff is rather...off-putting.  It's perfectly safe?  People eat this stuff all the time?

I guess I'll give it a try.  It can't be that bad, right?

*Gak* Oh my goodness, this is disgusting! You're a filthy liar!

It's an 'acquired' taste? Why would anyone want to acquire it?  I should try it again? Well....okay, maybe just a little bit more.

Nope, this is still foul. I'm not sure I'll be able to finish this wretched stuff.

I don't have to finish it? That's the best news I've heard all night! Summon the server--I'll have a bottle of your best breast milk to wash this horrid taste out of my mouth.  Well, that's it for this episode of Elizabeth's Baby Food Review--I hope you'll join us next time!

Elizabeth's Baby Food Review: Episode 1

Hi! My name is Elizabeth, and I'd like to welcome you to the first episode of my new show, Elizabeth's Baby Food Review! Today, I'll be rating a dish called "Rice Cereal."

Well, I've put in my order, and as you can see, the staff here brought it out in a nice blue plastic dish--classy, no?

Speaking of the staff, let me introduce you to my manservant.  He answers to the name of "Dad" usually, but sometimes I have to call him other things to get his attention (it's so hard to find good help these days).

So Dad feeds the first spoonful to me on an aesthetically pleasing pink rubber-tipped spoon. I take a bite and consider the texture and taste....

I detect the merest hint of Enfamil formula and an interesting flaky texture....

Tell me, is the formula-rice blend made with pure, bottled water?

No? Just filtered water? Oh well, that's not such a big deal I guess...

Just between you and me, I think this dish would have been better if served warm.  I'll be sure to mention that to the cook on my way out.

Would I like more? Oh, I really shouldn't..... Oh what the heck? I'm well within the acceptable range for my weight percentile rank!

I say, that was delish! My compliments to the chef (though do let her know that it would be better warm, please).  Well, that concludes this episode of Elizabeth's Baby Food Review.  Until next time, happy eating!
Mother's Note: This was really just an excuse for me to play with my new digital camera! I love it! I think the pictures are much clearer.  Also, Elizabeth actually doesn't seem to like rice cereal all that much, though she will try to eat it--most of it just dribbles down her face right now. :)
